MOTAT Aviation Display Hall.

Studio Pacific Architecture

MOTAT combined the use of high-tech LVL structures with decorative, acoustic and fire-resistant wood paneling. Décortech perforated and non-perforated panels were used with Tasmanian Blackwood and Tasmanian Oak veneer to introduce contrast and warmth into the interior.

Décortech created custom paneling for MOTAT following the design brief from studio Pacific Architects. Full-scale samples were created for the architects at the outset so any changes could be made before construction.

The combination of perforated panels and non-perforated panels on the gallery wall creates a standout feature that manages the aviation hall’s acoustic, fireproofing and airflow needs.

Over 900 panels were installed on the gallery wall and over 1200 panels overall, with all panels being predrilled with countersunk screw holes to make installation easier.

Décortech created over 400 precision shop drawings for approval from the site measurements provided before manufacturing commenced to ensure panels were correct once they were delivered to site.
